    The Libertines

It’s been over 25 years since The Libertines broke through in a big way. The magnetism of their decadent, fragile magic created something in the early 00s that we hadn’t heard in a long time. The Libertines were hailed as “The Best Band in the World.”

When frontmen Pete Doherty and Carl Barât sang into the same mic, their lips almost touching, and their energies shot up to an almost otherworldly height, a universe was created to which millions of fans around the world joined.
The intensity of The Libertines' music and existence was so strong that it sparked a well-documented, spiraling chaos — on the brink of crashing, but despite their shaky existence as the world’s greatest band, the passion for the music was always the lifeline, and the audience loved what they heard.

It’s been over 20 years since the iconic debut album Up The Bracket was released—an album produced by Clash guitarist Mick Jones, which became a milestone and a huge inspiration for a whole wave of indie rock bands. The Libertines made their Swedish debut in 2003 at Kägelbanan in Stockholm. A critic from Svenska Dagbladet wrote:

-Already during the first song, Pete Doherty kicks over the microphone stand, and by the end of the concert, he shoves Carl Barât into the crowd. With their leather jackets, bare chests, and ties, the two are constantly in motion, and the result is punk, energy, and rock ‘n’ roll in a big, saturated mix.

A lot of water has passed under the famous bridges since then, and the legends from East London have had a chance to calm down a bit, but with the groove and energy safely intact, we have a big evening to look forward to when The Libertines take the stage for the first time at Gröna Lund’s Main Stage on May 28, 2025.
